Muckrakers GM waves white flag, tosses in the towel

ANTIOCH -- Forced to face up to massive incompetence in the front office, Muckrakers general manager Dave Taxier took the drastic step of firing himself.

"The man couldn't field a full roster, turn a season-saving trade or even understand the basics of the D-League salary cap," Taxier said of himself. "Therefore, he, errr, I, must go."

Sure, Tax went, but not before unleashing a torrent of tears that made Dick Vermeil look like a drill instructor.

"Rick Hurd called me 'Spec Richardson' " the sensitive Taxinator wailed. "I cannot continue under these oppressive conditions."

Still, it isn't the Taxman's nature to completely bail out of any enterprise. Indeed, he informed one and all that he will return for his 33rd season as a player.

"I still have some muscle-pulls to go before it's all said and done," he noted, "so there is that. At the end of the day, it is what it is."
