Muckrakers bid farewell to another campaign

WALNUT CREEK -- The Muckrakers put another season in the rear view mirror in a 25-0 pasting at the hands of the over-achieving, under-scheduled Ducekies.

Even the home-plate umpire reportedly remarked that the fearsome Ducekies were more B league caliber than the D/C amalgamation that is the Thursday night men's league in Walnut Creek.

Still, the Mucksters did little to help their cause, throwing only eight players into the defensive mix while managing just two hits on offense. Luke Abbott and Bob Leal delivered the safeties, singles both, as the Mighty Men of Muck were forced to settle for a 2-4-1 fall season, just missing the playoffs. Not even the debut of Joe DeLoach could sway the result in the face of an unrelenting and remorseless Ducekies attack.

Still and all, the season held its delights. The Muckrakers met many new friends and enjoyed good fellowship before, during and after ballgames. And let us not forget two stirring victories as well as one dramatic-as-they-come tie. It was quite the improvement over the winless and tieless summer league.

In short, Muckraker management thanks everyone who took part over the fall campaign, and urges all to drive home safely. Feel free to contact your nearest Muckraker official for any comments or suggestions for next year's summer league.
