CONCORD -- A strong early effort was wasted as the Muckrakers dropped their second game in a row, falling to Air Pro 18-9.
Things certainly seemed to be heading in the 'Rakers' in the early going as they tallied eight runs in the first three innings, taking an 8-4 lead. But Air Pro got the bats revved up late and they poured across 11 markers in the fourth to roll into a lead they did not relinquish.
The ballgame was marked by some unlucky Muckraker hitting, as the Mucksters hit some hellacious shots that found Air Pro gloves. And the Muck-and-Grinders also were forced to deal with an opposing pitcher best described as a "character" with a unique double-clutching, change-of-pace pitching style. He was also a somewhat mouthy individual, leading some Muckrakers to speculate some dubious narcotics had found their way to this hurler, although this blog certainly hardly ever indulges in this kind of baseless innuendo and doesn't intend to again in the near future.
The Muckrakers take on One Bad Inning next week in an attempt to derail their two-game losing streak.
THREE STARS OF THE GAME
Dave Alcorn: Superb play at third base, including turning a double play, and a 3-for-4 game at the plate.
Randy Striegel: Ripped a double and a sacrifice fly in his return to action.
Luke Abbott: A couple of hits and solid outfield play in his return to action.
