Just a few things more

WALNUT CREEK -- "Romie" did a magnificant job of summarizing the wonderful win against Bad to the Bone, but just a little bit more of embellishment is perhaps called for.

Firstly, let's always remember the waiting game. The Run-A-Mucksters were forced to cool their jets while an NCS playoff game finished on their field. And when the NCS game showed no signs of stoppage, the whole kit'n'kaboodle was forced to march on down to Field 6, a fer piece down the road.

But, man alive, was this game worth waiting for.

How many 'Rakers games have featured two players going 5-for-5? None that we know of, until last Thursday. Cap'n Wagnon elevated himself to the leadoff spot and promptly justified the promotion by going a cool 5-for-5 with four runs scored. And Matt Peterson, in his familiar four-hole, also turned the 5-for-5 trick, including a Muckraker record six RBI. His blasts included a three-run homer to highlight the eight-run fourth inning. And let us not forget his stalwart pitching and defense.

Dave Alcorn was on base in all four of his plate appearances, going 3-for-3 with a walk. And the Muckrakers said "hello" to newcomer George Yawopnisky, who said "howdy" back-atcha with a two-run, two-RBI effort, not to mention a nifty scoop at first base.

"Rome" had to have been burning pretty hot to match the Muckrakers in this one, who put across a season-high 20 runs on a season-high 26 hits.
